Eczema herpeticum is very rarely seen. It can occur usually when the skin gets damaged by things like atopic dermatitis, long term usage of topical steroids, eczema or burns. This disease has several different names as well.
When you hear these terms, you will know that it’s about that disease: Kaposi varicelliform eruption, Kaposi-Juliusberg dermatitis and Pustulosis varioliformis acute. Some of people are making difference between these terms, on example, when the cause of disease is of human herpes simplex virus, the term which will be used is eczema herpeticum and when they do not want to specify the virus, but just do a general presentation, then the term used is always Kapposi variceliform eruption.
This disease is mostly caused by herpes simplex virus type 1 or 2, but the another cause which can be seen quite often is coxsackievirus A16 and there is also the vaccinia virus.
